Hello again,

Thanks for all the replies about Om in the garden.

My LGB/Aristocraft trains are running in my German garden railway. I take liscense to run USA roads on the German layout. Some years ago I visited the Swiss Historic layout in Interlaken, now closed, and was impressed to the point that I thought the Fama Om would make a great backdrop to the 1/24 - 1/32 trains that I am running. So now the Swiss Alps is under construction on my layout.

I have been researching and testing the track, Fama outdoor, in the back yard. The joiners are steel and rust, thus providing poor conductivity between the stainless track sections. I am on the search for joiners that will hold up outside with the Fama track. I have purchased some Alpinline flex track to help make more realistic curves as my trains traverse the mountains.

That leads me to the thought that I should run the trains with battery power. Has anyone tried that? We would not have to worry about track power then.

I have tried various ways of building the Swiss Alps with cement and fiberglass. I think fiberglass is the way to go. Has anyone had mountain building experiences on their garden railway? I am sinking planting pots with dwarf and minature conifers in the mountains. I have about ten pots and they seem to have survived this strange, cold and snowy winter in New York. These pots will bring more reality to the Swiss Alps. My next chalenge is to find the best method to build the viaducks.

Any thoughts, suggestions and or comments is welcomed. As soon as I clean up after the winter storms, a big rain one this weekend with 4 inches of rain and 40MPH winds over three days, I will have pictures available.

I wonder haw many Fama roco Alpinline Om layouts are running in Europe? It doesn't seem like many. However, if you have ever seen that Swiss Historic layout in Interlaken, you would realize how beautiful a layout in Om can be, even in the garden. I really hope they can fins another exhibit area for this beautiful Swiss layout.

Does anyyone know of a used source of Fama products? I am looking for the switcher they made.

Thanks and happy garden railroading!

John Hagedorn
